A preliminary analysis says six chained bugs let a 23-message transaction drain 48.87 million CACAO, sending the token down nearly 89%.

Cross-chain decentralized exchange (DEX) Maya Protocol halted its network after an attacker exploited a series of software flaws to obtain an estimated $1.7 million in crypto.&

On Wednesday, Maya Protocol’s pseudonymous co-founder Aalux said the attacker stole about 20 Bitcoin, valued at $1.4 million and another $300,000 in assets. He said the protocol implemented a global halt, contained further damage and started working on a fix to resume swaps.

A preliminary technical analysis shared by Aalux attributed the incident to six chained bugs involving trade accounts, outbound transaction handling and liquidity pool calculations. It said the attacker used a single transaction containing 23 messages to trigger a false theft detection, artificially inflate a low-liquidity pool and withdraw 48.87 million CACAO tokens from Maya’s Asgard module.&

The FASB said secondary-market liquidity alone would not be enough, with holders needing direct issuer redemption rights and one-to-one liquid reserves.

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) has proposed guidance outlining when companies may classify certain stablecoins as cash equivalents under generally accepted accounting principles in the United States.&

On Tuesday, the FASB said the proposed Accounting Standards Update would add illustrative examples to the current definition, addressing inconsistent treatment of digital assets such as stablecoins. The definition itself would remain unchanged.&

The proposal says a qualifying digital asset would need an on-demand contractual redemption right, a direct redemption right with its issuer for a known cash amount and at least one-to-one segregated reserves held in short-term, highly liquid assets.&

Since Bitcoin coin releases use a halving cycle will all of the Bitcoin ever fully be released or will it just get close to 100% but then the halving cycle goes into smaller and smaller pieces but never all of the Bitcoin?

What about for coins that release a percentage of coins in a time period (every year, month, etc.)? Will they ever release 100% of their coins or just close to 100%?

Would there be any problems with a crypto currency releasing 10% of its remaining supply that is not circulating yet per year until the max coin cap is reached?

For example, if a coin had an initial supply of 10 million coins and a max supply of 100 million coins, would there be any problems with this coin cause by this coin release cycle method?

Id like to hear them!

Why does Bitcoin use a release cycle based on blocks instead of a set percentage of the unreleased coins in the max supply being released on a schedule?

2. When a coin launches, is the full initial supply released immediately or over time?

4a. When are coins that were not a part of the initial supply, released and are they released all at once or over time?

4b. If over time, do coins that were not a part of the initial supply follow the same release plan that coins from the initial supply did?

1. Are is the creator initial balance of coins given all at once when the coin launches or over time?

2. Is the creator initial balance able to be sold immediately after coin launch, or does a certain time period have to go by before those coins can be sold?

I didn't take profits the last 20 opportunities given over the last 10 years. And now I'm down 95%. Maybe more. Maybe hell of a lot more when you factor in inflation, potential gains, etc.

The proposed rules from the US securities regulator would provide companies with a safe harbor from tokens being treated as “investment contracts” and certain exemptions for token issuance.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed new rules that could affect the cryptocurrency industry after lawmakers in Congress failed to pass a market structure bill before breaking for a month-long recess.

In a Tuesday notice, the SEC said that the agency proposed rules to create a “clear and fit-for-purpose framework for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets.” According to the regulator, the “tailored securities offering regime” would allow entities to raise capital while preserving investor protections.

The agency’s rules did not include an “innovation exemption” for crypto-based stocks, which had also been expected to be announced. Notably, the proposed rules came just days after the US Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, a bill expected to clarify the roles federal agencies would have in overseeing and regulating crypto.&

The US Securities and Exchange Commission proposed Regulation Crypto Assets on 18 August, offering crypto issuers two new exemptions from standard securities registration.

The first caps fundraising at $5 million over four years, the second allows up to $75 million in any 12 months. Both require issuers to give investors plain-language disclosures about the offering, while the larger exemption also requires financial statements and ongoing reporting after the sale.

The rule offers “clear pathways to raise capital under the federal securities laws,” SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said in the announcement.

When a Token Can Stop Being a Security

At the heart of the proposal is the concept of a safe harbour addressing when a crypto asset stops being treated as part of an investment contract.

Under existing case law, a token sale can count as a securities offering because buyers are relying on a team’s ongoing work to build value.

The SEC proposes rules to define more precisely when that reliance ends. Once a team has completed, or permanently abandoned, the managerial efforts it promised investors, the underlying token could fall outside the investment-contract definition, even though the same token was sold as a security earlier in its life.

"Advancing this regulatory framework is a key element in our strategy to advance the rule books for the modern era and another step by the Commission to onshore innovation in crypto asset markets for generations to come,” Atkins said.

Built on a Taxonomy Set in March

The proposal extends an interpretation the SEC issued in March 2026, which split crypto assets into five working categories: digital commodities, collectables, tools, payment stablecoins and digital securities.

The CFTC has said it will apply the Commodity Exchange Act consistent with that interpretation, giving assets outside SEC jurisdiction a defined home under CFTC oversight instead.

For qualifying offerings and some secondary transactions, the SEC’s proposal would also pre-empt state securities registration requirements, reducing the number of separate state-level filings issuers would otherwise face.

Atkins has said the proposal isn’t meant to substitute for legislation. A lasting framework would still require Congress to pass comprehensive market-structure rules, an effort he has framed the proposal as complementing rather than pre-empting.

The rule isn’t final. A 60-day public comment period begins once the proposal is published in the Federal Register. The SEC has assigned it file number S7-2026-27 and Release No. 33-11434, with a comment form already live on the agency’s site.

The hardware manufacturer is Bitbox, and all were responsibly disclosed:

• Remote multisig theft attack (Coldcard, 2020/11)
• Ransom attack on passphrase handling (Trezor/Keepkey, 2020/08)
• Bitcoin mainnet/testnet cross-account signing (Coldcard, 2020/08)
• Malicious Change in Mixed Transactions (Trezor, 2020/03)

There may be more of them that I haven't found.

This is extremely impressive from them.

Additionally, they were the first to make their hardware wallet (the Bitbox02) resistant against a very advanced attack: the nonce-covert channel attack. AFAIK this attack has never taken place yet, and the only hardware wallets resistant to it are the Bitbox02 and the 3 Blockstream Jades.
